Northampton County, NC - Wills File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Linda Chan Will of Abraham Nelson Northampton County, North Carolina Written 7 Apr 1816 Probated June Session 1816 In the name of God amen, I ABRAHAM NELSON in Northampton County and State of North Carolina being at the time very weak in body but of a sound mind and memory thanks be to God for it therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all flesh once to die as for all the worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I give in following manner and form. I give and bequeath unto my son WILLIAM NELSON the land that he lives on to him and his heirs forever, also I give to my grandchild WILLIAM NELSON one negro boy by the name Isaac to him forever; also I give to my son JAMES NELSON the tract of land where he lives on to him and his heirs forever and also one negro by the name of Solomon to him and his heirs; also I give to my grandchild ABRAM ALLEN one negro by the name of Poll; also I give to my son HEZEKIAH NELSON the tract of land that I now live on to him and his heirs forever and also one negro by the name of Peter to him and his heirs forever; also I give to my son JOHN NELSON one negro by the name Anthony to him and his heirs forever; also I give to my son ABRAHAM NELSON one negro by the name of Brutus; also I give to my daughter PATSEY VAUGHN one negro by the name of Venus to her and her heirs forever; also I give to my daughter LACRECY one negro by the name of Beck to her and her heirs forever; also I give to my grandchild NELSON HAYES one negro by the name of Tiller to him forever; also I give to Barshaba my grandchild one feather bed. also I give to HEZEKIAH NELSON one negro by the name of Loo to take care of BARSHABA to him and his heirs forever, for all the rest of my property after my decease to be equally divided amongst my children. I execute this to be my last will and testament' hereunto I set my hand and seal this 7th day of April 1816 its my will and desire that JOHN NELSON and HEZEKIAH NELSON should settle my estate ABRAHAM (his mark X ) Nelson Witness: __________ Johnson Edwin Ricks Northampton June Sessions 1816. This last will and testament of ABRAHAM NELSON desceased was exibited and offered for probate and Jesse Underwood entered a caveat to the probate thereof whereupon the issue of ______________ was ordered by the court and the following jury to wit; James Wheeler, James Munger, James Boon, John McPherson, John Mungan, John Summerrell, Harwood Dukes , Winborn Odam, Joab Lasiter, william H. Hardee, Peter Maddry and Moses Norwood being empanelled and sworn to try the issue upon their oaths do say it is the last will and testament of ABRAHAM NELSON, dec'd; therefore it is ordered by the court that the said will be entered of record, whereupon JOHN NELSON one of the executors in the said will names came into court and qualified thereto according to law; HEZEKIAH the other executor refusing to qualify.
