Onslow County, NC - Ward Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~ Ward Cemetery off Court Street and Ladd Lane, City of Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina, US Surveyed by Kay Toler and Beverly Cole Apr 2006 This cemetery, name unknown to us, is located at the end of Court Street, close to the New River. Turn right at the street sign labeled "Ladd Lane", follow a grass path which circles around to a clearing where you will find the cemetery. We started at the first marked grave and worked as much as possible from right to left, front to back. It should be noted that at one time, this must have been quite a place. The decorative markers, the various colors of stone and the era indicate much care and expense to honor the dead. Most of the surnames are those of long-time landowners of the ocean and river fronts of Onslow County more than 200 years before Camp LeJeune existed. We do not know if this was an original site or the private relocation of some family cemetery when the Federal Government took their portion of the county. Perhaps someone will see this who can provide something further. 01. Stella Mae w/o W. A. Wiggins b. 13 Aug 1887 d. 12 Aug 1946 "Kind angels watch her sleeping dust" 02. Wiley A.
