Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions December Term, A.D., 1850 To the Worshipful, the Justices of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, of the County of Onslow The petition of Susan Henderson widow of Josiah Henderson deceased, of the County of Onslow humbly complaining, sheweth unto your worships, that the said Josiah Henderson departed this life on the ___ day of December A.D, 1850 intestate, leaving him surviving, your petitioner, his widow. Your petitioner further sheweth, that the said intestate died possed and well entitled to, a considerable personal estate, and that at the present term of this Worshipful Court Alfred E. Simmons & B. R. Henderson have obtained letters of Administration of the goods and chattles, rights and credits of the said intestate, Josiah Henderson to be granted to them and hath by virtue thereof possessed himself, of the personal estate and effects of the said intestate, to a large amount, and much more than sufficient to pay his funeral expenses. Your petitioner further sheweth, that by virtue of the statute in such cases, made and provided, she is entitiled as the widow of said intestate, to an adeqyate support for herself and family, for the space of one year, out of the crop, stock and provisions that may be on hand beloning to the estate of the said intestate, and if there should be no crop, stock or provisions on hand, or not a sufficency to afford such allowance, to have the value of a years' provisions for herself and family estimated, and the same alloted and set apart to her, to be paid to your petitioner or allowed by the said Alfred E. Simmons & B.R. Henderson administrators of the said intestate, and in addition to said years support, your petitioner is also entitled to one bed and its necessary furniture, and one whell and one pair of cards, if such articles be among her Goods of her said deceased husband, as her absolute property, and to be put in the possession of the same. Your petitioner therefore prays your worships to appoint one Justice of the Peace, and three freeholders unconnected with your petitioner, to view the estate of her said deceased husband, and to give allot and apportion to your petitioner and family, so much or such part, thereof as they may deem necessary for the support of your petitioner and family, for one year, and no more; and that your worships would confirm the same, by the order and decree of this worshipful court, and grant unto your petitioner, such and further relief, according to the act of the General Assemby of this State, in such cases, made and provided, as the nature and circumstances of this case may require, and to your worships shall deem meet.
