Margaret Henderson widow of Henry Henderson, Deceased Petition for Years
Support filed March Term 1851

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA, Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Onslow County
September Term, A.D. 1848

To the Worshipful, the Justices of the Court of Please and Quarter Sessions,
of Onslow County:

	The petition of Margaret Henderson widow of Henry Henderson deceased, 
of the County of Onslow humbly complaining, sheweth unto your worships, that 
the said deceased departed this life on  the ___ day of January A.D. 1848 
intestate, leaving him surviving, your petitioner, his widow.  Your petitioner 
further sheweth, that the said intestate died possessed of and well intitled 
to, a considerable personal estate and that at the present term of this 
worshipful Court no person hath obtained letters of Administration of the 
goods and chattels, rights and credits of the said intestate, Daniel to be 
granted to him and hath by virtue thereof possessed himself, of the personal 
estate and effects of the said intestate, to a large amount, and much more 
sufficient topay his funeral expenses.  Your petitioner further sheweth, that 
by virtue of the statute in such cases, made and provided, she is entitled as 
the widow of said intestate, to an adequate support for herself and family, 
for the space of one year, out of the crop, stock and provisions that may be 
on hand belonging to the estate of the said intestate, and if there shold 
be no crop, stock or provisions on hand, or not a sufficiency to afford such 
allowance, to have the value of a years' provisions for herself and family 
estimated, and the same alloted and set apart to her, to be paid to your 
petitioner or allowed by the said Court of the said intestate,personal estate 
and in addition to said years' support, your petitioner is also entitled to 
one bed and its necessary furniture, and one wheel and one pair of cards, if 
such articles be among her Goods of her said deceased husband, as her 
absolute property, and to be put in possession of the same.

	Your petitioner therefore prays your worships to appoint one Justice 
of the Peace, and three freeholders, unconnected with your petitioner, to 
view the estate of her said deceased husband, and to give allot and apportion 
to your petitioner and family, so much or such part thereof as they may deem 
necessary for the support of your petitioner and family, for one year, and 
no more; and that your worships would confirm the same, by the order and 
decree of this worshipful court, and grant unto your petitioner, such other 
and further relief, according to the act of the General Assembly of this 
State, in such cases, made and provided, as the nature and circumstances of 
this case may require, and to your worships shall seem meet.  And your 
petitioner will ever pray, &c.

Ordered that Thomas B. Holand Justice of the Peace Robert S. McClean, Christopher
D. Stephens and John Watson be and are hereby appointed a commitie to lay off
to Margaret Henderson widow of Henry Henderson decd one years support for herself
and family as prayed for in the foregoing Petition.

In obedience to the court petition me the commitie appointed by an order of
court have sat off the patition of Margaret Henderson the following articles
or the value in money viz:

Twenty five barrels of corn				$125.00
One thousand pound of porke 				 100.00
two barrels flour					  14.00
Fifty pound of coffee					   7.50
Fifty pound of sugar					   5.00
Fifty pounds of lard					   5.00
Ten galons of molasis					   3.50
Six bushels of salt					   2.40
							________
							$262.40

In witness where of me have here unto set our names this 30 day of August 1851
