Onslow County, NC - Nancy Henderson - Petition for Dower 1840 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nancy Henderson to the Court Petition for Dower 1840 To the Worshipful the Justices of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions for Onslow County. The petition of Nancy Henderson respectfully sheweth unto your Worships that she is the widow of Henry Henderson and as such entitled to dower out of the real estate of which her husband died seized & perfected Viz: to the following land or parcel at which her husband resided one parcel called the Johnson tract & one parcel called the Waters land. She prays your worships to order a committie to lay off & allot her Dower according to law & report to next Court and she will ever Pray Signed: M.E. Hardy State of North Carolina, To the Sheriff of Onslow County greetings you are hereby commanded to Summon twelve good and lawful men, freeholders of your County unconnected with the parties mentioned in this writ, by affirmity or consanquinity to meet upon the premises late of Henry Henderson dec. and after being duly sworn by you, to lay off to Nancy Henderson widow of said Henry Henderson her Dower in the lands of her said husband (see petition hereunto annexed) according to law Herein fail not and return with this writ, their proceedings in this behalf, to our Court to be held for your County on the first Monday of November next.
