Ward, formerly of Newbern, NC. STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA to the Sheriff of Onslow County, Greeting: Whereas we lately commanded you to cause to be made of the Goods and Chattels, Lands and Tenements of ELI W. WARD in your County, the sum of $154.45 with Interest from Nov. term 1819 which ALICE LOOMIS lately in our Court of Pleas & Quarter-Sessions, for the County of Onslow recovered against him for debt and also the sum of L2.1.3 for the costs and charges in the said suit expended, where of the said ELI W. WARD was convicted as appears to us of record: And you returned to us that you had leved the execution on a certain negro man named CAPE. We now command you, that you expose the same to sale, so as to satisfy the said costs, together with the further sum of 3/9 for this writ; and have you the said monies, before our said Court, to be held for the County of Onslow at the Court-House in Onslow on the first Monday of August next, together with this writ.--Herein fail not. Ward and the sister of my ancesteress Clarissa Ward Mitchell. She is the Aunt who raised my g.g.grandfather Nathaniel Loomis Mitchell after his mother died at his birth. (pmp)
