Recorded in Book 3, page 84 Know all men by these presents that I WILLIAM MITCHELL of the County of New Hanover and State of North Carolina have bargained and sold to GAINES ROWE Guardian to ANNA SHACKELFORD of the County of Onslow and State aforesaid a negro girl about six years of age named LISA for and in consideration of seventy two pounds fourteen shillings and six pence do warrant and defend the sd. negro girl against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whom-so-ever. Given under my hand and seal this 13th of March 1809. W. MITCHELL (seal) The condition of the above bill of sale is such if the above mentioned WILLIAM MITCHELL doth pay by the twenty eight of October next with lawful interest for which he has given a note for the same amount of the same date; for the sum of seventy two pounds fourteen shillings and six pence to GAINS ROWE guardian to ANNA SHACKELFORD then the above bill of sale to be null and void and of none effect, other ways to remain in full force and virtue.
