Onslow County, NC - Josiah Henderson Sr. to Hillary Henderson, 1839

This is a transcription of a letter sent from a resident of Northeast
Community now the Kellum community, Josiah Henderson Sr. to his son Hillary
Henderson December 4, 1839:

    State of North Carolina Onslow County December 4, 1839.

    Dear son I am blest with the opertunity of writing to you once more
thanks be to God for his merseys that, I am spard to this present, time  I
am cripple by panes that I had for this three years.  Thay pains don't hurt
as bad as they did at the furst.  I have bad nuse to inform you of my pore
son Gabril H. Henderson is ded & wife both tha died within each either.
Gabril decst this life the 17 day of October and his wife the 4 day of
November and left, two pore littl children David James & William H.
Henderson.

    Nothing particler to inform you of only we are in much trobl.  We dont
se much elce but trobl in this present world.  Your mother has had eleven
children and but fore of them living.  All the famly connection as far as I
know but, Issac Henderson I hern that he is sick.  You wrote that you had a
great drouth so hat we had wintery storm two but crops of wonderful lines is
common here.

    We desire to be remembered to you and famly and sister Polley Haskins
and famly & Brother Beverly Simmons and famly and all the rest of the famly
connection and Elijah Watters and all in inquiring friends if any.  Nothing
more at present but remainging your loving Father ann Mother untill death.

N. B. Dear Sister pray for me for my days are few and full of troble.  I
never expect to se you in this present world but, I hope to meet, in Another
where parting will be no more.  Nothing more at Present but remaing your
loving Sister untill death.
