Pursuant to previous notice the Democratic County Convention for Onslow county, met at Jacksonville on Monday, the 7th of August, and organized by the appointment of Dr. Edward W. Ward as Chairman and A. C. Huggins as Secretary. The roll call showed that every voting place in the county was represented by regularly accredited delegates. The following nominations were made, viz: House of Representatives – John W. Shackleford. Sheriff – Elijah Murrill. Treasurer – Lewis W. Harget. Surveyor – L. G. Woodward. Register of Deeds – James O. Frazel. Coroner – Thomas J. Jarman. County Commissioners – A. J. Murrill, Wm. P. Ward, John Sheperd, Charles Gerock, Sr., and J. W. Thompson. The following Executive Committee were appointed viz: Jere W. Spicer, Richard W. Nixon, Simon B. Taylor, Edward W. Ward and Wm. J. Montfort. The convention endorsed both National and State tickets, recommended the ratification of the constitutional amendments, zand adjourned amidst the utmost harmony and good feeling. EDWARD W.
