LAWRENCE EAGAR MORTON
  Funeral services for Lawrence Edgar Morton, 51, who died yesterday after a 
long illness, will be held this afternoon at 3:30 from the Morton family 
cemetery at Hubert, conducted by Rev. J. K Wetherington and Rev. Laurie 
Atkinson.
  He is survived by his mother, Mrs. L. D. Morton, and one brother, Robert, of 
Hubert; five sisters, Mrs. Raymond Kellum and Miss Vivian Kellum of Hubert, 
Mrs. Lyde Jones of Charlottesville, Va., and Mrs. Earl Hughes and Mrs. Zeta 
Littleton of Portsmouth, Va.

Additional Comments:
His middle name was misspelled in the large caption, but correctly spelled 
within the obituary (“Edgar”).  His family called him “Buddy”.  Buddy was 
never married.  He was a Merchant Marine, an Able Bodied Seaman, for many 
years traveling across the Atlantic Ocean many times, up and down the Atlantic 
Coast to South America and through the Panama Canal to California, aboard 
various freighters and passenger steamships.  He contracted tuberculosis and 
complications from it were the cause of his death.  The Morton Family Cemetery 
is located in front of the current Queens Creek Middle School near Swansboro, 
NC.

His sister, Vivian Inez Morton is incorrectly identified as a Kellum.  She 
later married a "Gibson".  His father, Lawrence deLafayette Morton had 
preceded him in death in 1950.  His mother was Thalia Alma Freshwater, the 
daughter of Robert W. Freshwater.
