Red Cross spokeswoman Barbara Martin said that Mr. Morton had been an institution at the Atlanta Red Cross for 37 years. He was certified to teach every first-aid course the Red Cross offers and had taught literally thousands of people in hundreds of classes. He was noted for his work in safety and disaster programs and spent much of his time in field disaster work. Some of the rescue projects he helped organize include the New Hope plane crash and the Toccoa flood disaster. As chairman of the Safety Committee in Cobb County, he was called first in the event of any disaster in the area. A longtime resident of Atlanta, he was active in such associations as the Buckhead Men’s Garden Club and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Eliza M. Woodward and a nephew, George M. Woodward, both of Miami Beach; two nieces, Mrs. John Logan of Louisiana, Mo., Mrs. Robert Sedlak of San Bernadino, Calif.; and two cousins, Mrs. William Fortune of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. Ann Thompson of Los Angeles, Calif. Morton,Sr. family in Atlanta, GA in the late 1920s.
