Death of Henry RHODES of Onslow Co., NC
14 Sept 1791

State N. Carolina
New Hanover County

Inquisition indented taken at Wilmington in the County aforesaid the fourteenth 
day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Ninety 
one before me John BROWN one of the Coroners of the said County upon View of the 
Body of Henry RHODES late of Onslow County then and there lying dead and upon 
the Oaths of John LEVINGSTON, Jonathan JENNINGS, David GREER, Henry ROOKS, John 
MARTIN, Samuel LOWDER, John MORRIS, John ALLAN, John NICHOLAS, John TELFAIR, 
David BARKER & Meredith DARLINGTON good and lawful Men of the County aforesaid 
who being charged and sworn to enquire how an din what manner the said Henry 
RHODES by his Death came upon their Oaths do say that on the thirteenth day of 
September about nine O’clock at Night as the said Henry was riding on the Road 
towards the Sound his horse ran violently against a Tree by which means he 
received a blow on the head and left shoulder which occasioned his death, and 
further the said Jurors upon their Oaths do say that he the said Henry came by 
his death accidentally and casually.
In Testimony whereof as well I the said Coroner as the Jurors aforesaid, to this 
Inquisition have severally put our Seals the Day Year & place first above 
mentioned.
