"Buddy", as he was known, was a Merchant Marine for many years, acting as an "Able Bodied" Seaman aboard various freighters and passenger liners. He travelled extensively in the 1920s and 1930s between New York City and Hamburg, Germany. The Hamburg City Railway Station is shown in the left of the photo (postcard). Interesting to note the large Swastika on the building.
