James R. King wed Annie Elizabeth Wells (born 27 Jul 1851 died 10 Sep 1948), 
daughter of James Wells and Hannah Dawson on 24 Mar 1870 in Onslow County.

Enlisted in Onslow County 6 May 1861 at age 20, promoted to sargeant
7 May 1862, wounded near Fort Stedman, Va 29 Mar 1865, captured at 
Petersburg, Va, confined at various federal hospitals and to Camp
Hamilton, Va 30 May 1865, released 31 May 1865 after taking the oath 
of allegiance

Served in Co. B, 24th Regiment NC Troops

6 Jul 1908 - listed slightly wounded in war, but owing to bad health
and age 3/4 disabled to perform manual labor - Dr. Cox reports he
suffers chronic indigestion and functional cardiac trouble, age 67
