This 8th day of January, 1921. N G Benton [his signature] Clerk Superior Court of Onslow County. [end of document] Additional Comments: Ruth Jane (Morton) Aman was the daughter of West Morton and Rachel Henderson. One record puts her birth as 05 Sep 1840 and the date of her death as 27 Dec 1920. She married David Sanders Aman on 04 Jan 1859. I have no record of their ever having any children. They did own the former David Ward Sanders’ plantation, Palo Alto, for some years. “David Sanders Thomas, son of my sister, Adella C. Thomas.” Adella C. Morton was the youngest child of West and Rachel Morton. She married Lewis G. Thomas, the son of Marquis D. Thomas and Elizabeth A. Gregory of Richlands, NC. Her brother, Wesley E. Morton, also married a child of Marquis D. Thomas and Elizabeth A. Gregory, Marinda Caroline. An unmentioned brother, John Best, married Sena Ann (Serena) Thomas, also a child of M. D. Thomas. I mention this because the name “Sena” recurs throughout the various generations and offspring. “Sena L. Wells, daughter of Charles Wells” Charles Wells was married to her sister, Serena Morton. The 1850 Census has him listed as “Needham Wells”. Viola P. Womble, I believe to be the daughter of John L. Provow and Susan Ann Morton, her sister. I am not sure if “William J. Provow” was the son of Susan Ann Morton or her sister, Sarah. Both Sarah and Susan Ann were daughters of West and Rachel Morton. Sarah married John L. Provow first. After Sarah died, Susan Ann, who’s husband had also died, married John L. Provow. “Daniel R. Phillips, son of my sister, Polly Phillips” Apparently, Polly was the preferred name of, “Mary A Morton”, the oldest child of West and Rachel Morton. She was married to Brice Phillips. In one census, she is listed as “Polly Phillips” and in another, she is shown as “Mary Phillips”. Ruth Jane Morton Aman, her husband, David S. Aman, her sister, Adella C. Thomas, and her sister’s husband, Lewis G. Thomas are buried beside one another in the Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery. The “David Thomas Bible” Record – Onslow County, is another excellent source for information on many of the persons mentioned in the Ruth Jane Aman Will. It can also be found online.
