This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Rick Richter richter@entercomp.com ==================================================================== The Last Will & Testament of William Godfrey 19 September 1791 Onslow County, North Carolina Wills Book 2, Page 34, North Carolina Archives North Carolina In the name of God Amen, The 19th day of September 1791, I William Godfrey of the County of Onslow, Farmer, being very sick & weak in body but in perfect mind & memory Thanks be to God for the (?); Calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men one to die do make and ordain this my last will & testament, That is to say princaplly and first of all I recomend my soul to God that gave it & my body to be buried in a decent maner at the descretion of my executors hereafter named & as for my temporal estate which it hath been pleased God to Bless me with I give & bequeth in manner & form as follows whereas, My will and desire is that my land together with all my moveable estate, except my negroe woman Dinah & her child Margaritt, be sold at the discretion of my executors, that is to say, either on a credit of six or 12 months or at private sale and the money so arising to be lade out in young negroes at the discretion of my said executors, which negroes together with my negroe woman Dinah & her child Margaritt to be equally divided between my four children namely Francis, Enock, William & Bonetta. At my son Francis's arriving at the age of twenty-one, or between the survivers of my children and the eldest of them coming of age. But in case my executors should remove to the state of Georgia, and carry my children, which I wish them to do, and my negroe woman Dinah should not wish to go with them, I desire she may be sold or exchanged for a young negroe girl or woman. I desire that the money arising from the heir(hire?) of Dinah & the negroes to be purchased be applied towards schooling and maintaining my children. I do hereby nominate and appoint my brother Enoch and Francis Godfrey to be my whole & sole executors of this my last will and testament and I do heare by littirly disanull & revok all and every other former testament, wills legacies and bequeths and etc. by me in any ways before named willed & bequeted & ratifieng & confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
