Onslow County, NC - Will of Jacob Huggins, 1789 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Jacob Huggins Onslow Co., N. Carolina In the name of God Amen I Jacob Huggins of Onslow County Being sick in body but of sound mind and memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament in manner and form following first I recomend my soul to God who gave it hoping through the merrits of my blessed Savior to receive free pardon of all my sins & as to such worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of in the following manner. First I give to my son Cooper Huggins one half of the lands I now posses comprehending the house & plantation where on I now live beginning at the mouth of a small branch at the lower side of the cleared land called Rice Patch Branch & running up the said branch to the county pond then along the pond to the next branch including all the land on the north side of the road to him and his heirs forever. I also give to my son Cooper Huggins one sow named Pink to him & his heirs & assigns forever. Second I give to my son Luke Huggins on half of my lands which I now posses being the lower half beginning at the mouth of a small branch called Rice Patch Branch running up the various courses of the same to the county Road thence along the road to the next branch including all the land on the south side of the Road & if my son should die before he comes of age I have the above said land to be sold, & the money to be equally devided amongst my children. I also give to my son Luke Huggins one cow named Callicoe one coalt to him & his heirs forever. I give to my son Luke Huggins five pounds in money. Thirdly I give to my beloved wife Frances Huggins durring her natural life the upper half of my plantation whereon I now live I also give unto my wife one feather bed & furniture also two younger horses & a mare. I also leave my negro man Adam to my wife durring her natural life and at her death to be sold & the money to be equally devided amongst my two sons Luke Huggins & Cooper Huggins. I leave to my wife Frances all my cattle except such as shall herafter be givin away. Fourthly I give to my son Jacob Huggins one cow named Cheary one feather bed & furniture and beadstead one mare to him & his heirs forever. Fifthly I give to my daughter Lizanner Huggins one cow named Star & her calf I also give my daughter one calf which is named White rump one bed & furniture to her & her heirs forever. Sixthly I give & bequeath to my daughter Purity Huggins on cow named Dumpling & her calf I also give to my daughter Purity on calf named Startly one feather bed & furniture to her & her heirs forever. Seventhly I give to my daughter Ruth Huggins one cow named Blackky & her calf one bed & furniture to her & her heirs forever. Eightly I leave my money & book accounts to be collected in and all other moneys which is owed me to be applyed for the building my chimmneys & other uses I leave all the rest of my personal estate to my wife shich is not mentioned in this will to inable her to raise my children and at her death to be sold & the money to be equally devided umongst my children. Lastly I nominate & appoint my son Jacob Huggins executor & my wife Frances Huggins executrix revoking all other will or wills by me made ratifying and confirming this only to be my last will & testament in testamony I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th day of November 1789.
