They had no children of their own, but raised her nephew Nathaniel Loomis Mitchell, after his mothers death at his birth. He was not only a physician, but an attorney, and served as the Onslow County Clerk for many years. (pmp) Will of Dr. Nathaniel Loomis, taken from the original, NC State Archives. (PMP) Nathan Loomiss Will 1816 Recorded, wills of 1800 page 78 In the name of God Amen---- I Nath Loomis of the County of Onslow and State of North Carolina Physician although in the enjoyment of a Tolirable share of health and in the possession of my ration Faculties Reflecting on the mortality that is pravilant among manking and knowing htat it is appointed for all men once to die I have thought it prudent and avisable to constitute make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (viz) First believing in the mmortaltity of the soul I wish for a willingness to resign it unto the hands of that Almighty being who formed it and as to my Body "let it be buried at the discretion of my Ex.rs. 2ndlly It is my earnest will and desire as to my estate with which it has pleased God to bless me, be appropriated and disposid of in the following manner (viz) 1st. That all my just debts and funiral expences be honestly and punchially paid -- -- -- Secondly It is my will that two of my old negros Seasor and his wife Jude be manumitted and set free and that they have for their maintainance and supposrt the use of that tract of land containing eighty four acres which I bot of Benj. Ramsey known by the Scott place also the use of the cleared lands & what they may clear of the land adjoining the same which I bot of Stephen Parker also two cows & calves one ylke of two or three year old stears 2 sows and piggs & sixten barrels of corn during there natural lives. Thirdly It is my will and desire that none of my lands or negros be sold but that my lands be rented & negros hired out if found necessary to discharge my debts. Forthly It is my will and desire that my wife Alice Loomis have the use of ani further part of all my lands during the term of her natural life ----- Fifthly It is my will and desire that all my personal estate consisting of negros cattle horses hogs sheep household & kitchen furniture & plantations tools after and all other personal extate after the payment of my just debts be equally devided unto three parts as equally as can be done and that one third part go to my wife Alice Loomis and the other two thirds to my three brothers Limon Loomis, Lolomon Loomis & Epapphras Loomis to them there heirs Exrs. admis. & assigns forever. Sixthly It is my will that if there is a surplus of moneys arising from my bonds notes and accounts after paying my just debts is my will that it be divided as directed for my personal estate.
