B. Rogers of the county of Onslow and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of human life do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following: First. My executrix, hereinafter named, shall give my body a decent burial, suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives, and pay all funeral expenses, together with my just debts, out of the first moneys which may come into her hands as a part or parcel of my estate. Second. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Sallie A. Rogers, all the personal property that I may own or to which I may be entitled at the time of my death. Third. I give and devise to my beloved wife, Sallie A. Rogers, two lots or parcels of land situated in the town of Jacksonville, Onslow County, North Carolina, one lot described in a deed from Hill Humphrey and wife, Georgia Humphrey to A. B. Rogers dated the 21st day of February, 1910, and recorded in the records of Onslow County in Book number 96 at page 503, and one lot described in a deed from Hill Humphrey and wife, Georgia G. Humphrey to A. B. Rogers, dated the 29th day of April, 1911, and registered in the records of Onslow County in Book number 110 at page 386. To have and to hold to her for and during the term of her natural life. Fourth. I give and devise, after the death of my beloved wife, the two lots or parcels of land aboe described to my two daughters, Mamie Grace Hemby and Elizabeth Rogers, share and share alike, to have and to hold to them and their heirs and in case either one of my said daughters should die before I do, leaving issue, then in that case the issue of the one dying shall be entitled to the part of their mother. Fifth. I give, bequeath and devise all the residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever situated unto to my beloved wife, Sallie A. Rogers absolutely. Sixth. I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife, Sallie A. Rogers, my lawful executor to all intents and purposes, to execute this my last will and testament, and it is my desire that she shall not be required to give any bond, and I hereby revoke and declare utterly void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, the said A. B. Rogers, do hereunto set my hand and seal, this the 28th day of February, 1922. C. --- NORTH CAROLINA } Onslow County } In the Superior court—Before the Clerk In the Matter of the Will of A.B.Rogers, deceased The paper-writing hereto attached and purporting to be the last will and testament of A.B.Rogers, deceased, is exhibited before the undersigned Clerk of the Superior Court of Onslow County, North Carolina, by Sallie A. Rogers, the executorix therein named, and thereupon the following proof thereof is taken by the oath and examination of Frank Thompson and Leah Thompson, the subscribing witnesses thereto, as follows: NORTH CAROLINA Onslow County. Frank Thompson and Leah Thompson being duly sworn, depose and say, and each for himself deposes and says, that he is a subscribing witness to the said paper-writing now shown him, purporting to be the last will and testament A.B.Rogers, and that he saw him execute this writing as his last will and testament, and that affiant attested it in the presence and at the request of said A.B.Rogers deceased; and that at the time of its execution said A.B.Rogers was, in affiant’s opinion, of sound mind and disposing memory. And thereupon it is considered and adjudged by the Court that the said paper-writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of A.B.Rogers, deceased, and it is ordered that the same, with the foregoing examination and this certificate, be recorded and filed. This 29th day of May, 1922 N G Benton [his signature] Clerk Superior Court of Onslow County. [end of document] Additional Comments: Allen Burkhead Rogers was the son of Daniel S. Rogers and Ann Elizabeth Taylor. He was born in August of 1870 and died sometime before May 29, 1922. His first wife, Sena Morton, was the daughter of Wesley Edward Morton and Marinda Caroline Thomas. Their daughter, Mamie Grace, was born in 1900. Sena died in 1902 at age 25, and is buried in the West Morton Cemetery near Swansboro, NC. His second wife, Sallie A. Parker was the daughter of John and Mary Parker. Their daughter, Elizabeth Inez, was born in February of 1914. The family moved to Jacksonville, NC where Elizabeth Inez Rogers graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1931. Frank Thompson was a general practice lawyer in Jacksonville, NC. His daughter, Leah, was a stenographer, single and living at home at the 1920 Census.
