Will of Joseph Screws, Onslow County, NC 1798

In the Name of God Amen, I Joseph Screws being old and weak in body but of
perfect memory and understanding and calling to mind the mortality of the
Body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and Ordain
this to be my last Will and Testament and first of all I recommend my Soul
to almighty God who gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in desent
Christian form at the Discretion of my Executors hoping to recieve the same
again at the general resurrection and as to my worldy Estate which god has
blessed me with I give and demise dispose as followeth that is to say,

I give and bequeath to my son William I give five shillings starling,
Item I give to my son John five shillings starling
Item I give to my son Joseph five shillings starling
Item I give to my son James five shillings starling
Item I give to my daughter Mary five shillings starling
Item I give to my daughter Frances five shillings starling
Item I give to my son Benjamin four hundred acres of land including the
   plantation where i now dwell my beloved wifes third excepted.
I give my son Benjamin one cart and wheels, one yoak of Oxen and all the
   plantation tools only my beloved wife to have use of them her lifetime also
I give my son Benjamin one horse colt also two sows and pigs one cow
   and calf at my wife desease.
Item I give to my son Henry one Two year old heifer
Item I give to my daughter Martha one Two year old heifer
Item I give to my daughter Elisabeth one Two year heifer
Item I give to my beloved wife all my household goods, furniture, my cattle 
   and hogs and one mare and horse during her widowhood or natural life then to
   be equally divided between my four daughters Permelia, Rhody, Omey, Rebekah
   to them and their heirs forever~
and I likewise substitute and appoint my beloved friend Lott Ballard and my son
Benjamin Screws to be my sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament and
I disanull all other wills or testaments whatsoever made by me before but
allowing this to be my Last Will and Testament in witness where of I have here
unto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty eight day of June, One 
Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight ~
