This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Fran Henderson fhenderson@ec.rr.com ==================================================================== State of North Carolina I Richard Ward of the County of Onslow and State aforesaid being indesposed in body of a mind recalling that I must some time or other leave this world by death but of the certainty of the time I am not able to tell I therefore make and ordain this my will in manner following that is to say I wish my Just debts and Expenses to be paid out of such property even if it is the old negroes as my Executor shall think can be Spared best for that purpose Item I give to my Daughter Polly's children ten dollars of my estate and no more as I give to her her full share of what I then possessed Item Give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Fields the sum of ten dollars out of my Estate and no more as she has had her part before Item I Give and bequeath to my son George Ward all the land I bought of the Court House land Item I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Fereby Ward my home plantation and the lands belonging to said plantation Item I leave the rest of my property both real and personal to be equally divided between my said Son George Ward and my Daughter Fereby Ward and if either of the aforesaid children Geroge or Fereby should die before arriving to age or without lawful issue for the share or legacy that I have bequeathed it he or she, to go to the surviving one Lastly I do appoint Banister Lester as Executor to fullfill the contents of this will whom I also appoint as Guardian to my aforesaid two children George and Fereby In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 17th day of February 1825 I further request my Executor to support Mrs. Rachel Johnston during her life in decency out of my Estate [Signed by] R. Doty one of the subscribing witnesses there to being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he saw Richard Ward sign the said within will and acknoledged it to be his Will and that Susan R. Doty another of the subscribers there signed said Will in his presence and in the presence of each other they both signed said Will. Test Banister Lester C.C. Onslow County In Court May term 1825 I do hereby certify that Banister Lester duly Qualified as an Executor to this will of Richard Ward and Letters was ordered to be granted Chris'r Dudley (Clk?) Rich'd Wards Will 1825 Recorded in Book of Wills 1800 on page 143 On another copy of this will found in the file of a lawsuit was added: State of North Carolin Onslow County I Jasper Etheridge cleark of the Court of pleas & Quarter Sessions for Onslow County aforesaid hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of a paper writing purporting to be the last will of Richard Ward dece'd as found on file in the office of Said Court In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Seal of Said Court at office the 19th day of June 1849 [signed] Jasper Etheridge Clk
