I, Burrel Dickson, of the county of Onslow and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory blessed be God, do this the 27th day of June, in the year of our Lord 1829, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say…. ITEM I give and bequeath to my two sons John and Henry Dickson, all my lower plantation consisting of 180 acres to be equally divided between my said sons, also one hundred dollars a piece in cash (if ?) there is sufficient after my youngest children is raised and schooled, to them and their heirs & assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my son Stephen Dickson the land and plantation wherein I now live and the Cummins (?) place adjoining, by estimation 219 acres. Also my negro man (June or James?), sixty two years lien (?) of said (June or James?) to be put to the use of raising and schooling of my two youngest children, also my trunk to him and his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Neomy Dixon my negro woman Lucy and her increase from the above date, one bed and furniture and trunk that she had claimed to her and her heirs & assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Aliff Dixon one negro girl Mary and one chest that was her Aunt Aliff's to her and her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Dixon my negro girl (Taner or Tamer?) and one chest formerly called her mother's chest to her and her heirs and assigns forever. Also leave my negro woman (Tirus?) at the discretion of my Executor that I shall hereafter mention, either to hire out or to make some bargain with some good woman and take the chits and said negro (Tirus?) until my daughter Rebecca arrives at the age of nine years old. If not to be hired out and the money arising therefrom to go to the support of my said daughter until the above-mentioned age, then I shall desire otherwise hereafter. Also my will is that my son Stephen Dickson have one years schooling and the board and schooling to be paid out of the money arising from the hire of my aforesaid negro June. My will and desire is that if either of my aforementioned sons should die without heirs of their body, that there property to be equally divided between the surviving brother, and if either of my above mentioned daughters should die without heir of their body that their property be equally divided between their surviving sisters. Lastly, my will and desire is that all the remainder of my estate not otherwise disposed, consisting of horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, household and kitchen furniture to be sold and after one hundred dollars each to my sons John & Henry Dickson, also $100 each to my daughters Aliff and Rebecca Dickson, then all the residue arising from the sale to be equally divided between all my children. Also, my will is that at the expiration of my youngest daughter Rebecca arriving to the age before mentioned, then my negro woman (Tirus?) to be kept hired until my youngest child arrives to the age of 18 years & then said negro woman to be sold and the money arising from hire and sale, to be equally divided between all my surviving children. Lastly, I make and ordain my trusty friend William Sidbury Executor of this my last will and testament in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written. Then was the will of Burrel Dixon offered for probate which was admitted on the testimony of David Gornto and Bryan Hemby, the witnesses thereto and William Sidbury, the executor therein named, qualified as such in due form of law.
