I, John Evan, of the state of North Carolina and County of Onslow, and in the year of our Lord 1836 and the 6th day January, being of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, do make this my last will & testament in manner as follows. ITEM I give and bequeath to beloved wife Esther Evan one feather bed and furniture stead to her and her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Sharlotte King one dollar to her and her husband, assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my four grandchildren of my son Jabus Evan, decd., namely Sarah King, Mary Evan, Walton and Edward Evan one dollar each to them & their heirs and assigns forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my three grandchildren of my son, Bryan Evan, and namely Esther, Leah and Harriet Evan, one dollar each to them and their heirs and assigns forever. ITEM I lend (to my wife? seems to be omitted here) all my lands and tenements and all my personal estate consisting of horses, cattle, hogs and household and kitchen furniture and plantation utencils of every discription during her line or widowhood. ITEM After the death or widowhood of my wife, I give and bequeath to my son Samuel Evan all my lands and tenements whereon I now live to him and his heirs and assigns forever. ITEM After the death of my wife or widowhood, my will is that all my personal estate of kind so ever to be equally divided between my two daughters namely, Beneter Evan and Esther Koonce, to them and their heirs forever. Lastly, I make and ordain my worthy son Samuel Evan my executor to this my last will and testament. In testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date first above written.
