I, Peter Gornto, of the County of Onslow & State of North Carolina, being of sound disposing mind & memory (blessed be God), do this second day of June 1828 make & publish this my last will & testament in the manner following, that is to say My will is that all my just debts be paid out of my estate first. ITEM I loan to my blessed wife during her natural life or widowhood the plantation whereon I now live with a privalidge from all my land if she should kneed for timber or wood or whatever she may kneed for the necessary support for schooling & raising my three youngest children Elizabeth W., Nathan & Benjamin. ITEM I give to my daughter Elizabeth one feather bed, bedstead & furniture. I loan to my beloved wife Sally all the rest of my household furniture for to raise my three younger children above named and including my stock of any kind untill they arrive to age or marry and in either case, my will is that my stock aforementioned be equally divided & set off to them as they come to age or marry excepting my daughter Elizabeth is to have no share in their beds as I have given her one but to have her equal part in all the rest with her mother and two younger brothers. ITEM I give to my son Joseph one hundred acres of land be the same more or less butted and bounded by Cogdells Creek & a rough of marked trees, to him & his heirs. ITEM I give to my son Joseph one hundred acres bounded by Cogdells Creek & two rough of marked trees be the same more or less to him & heirs. ITEM I give to my son (Nathan?) one hundred acres of land bounded by Cogdells Creek, rough of marked trees & center of Logger Head Swamp to him, his heirs & assigns be the same more or less. ITEM I give to my daughter Elizabeth fifty acres of land be the same more or less bounded by Frenches Creek & Cowhead & Wells Branch & the (illegible) line of Thomas Edens to her, her heirs & assigns. ITEM I give to my son Benjamin two hundred seventy five acres be the same more or less bounded by Cogdells Creek & Cowhead & adjoining the lands I gave my sons Joseph & David to him, his heirs & assigns. ITEM I give my lands lying between Cowhead & ----prong river to be equally divided amongst all my above named children equally. ITEM In case of either of my three sons Joseph, David, & Nathan should either of them die leaving no lawful heirs of their body for the lands to be equally divided amongst the surviving ones, except that two of them should die, in that case it is my will that my son Benjamin should come for an equal share that is to say, one (heir?). My will is further if my son Benjamin should die leaving no lawful heirs of his body for the lands I gave him to be equally divided amongst all my surviving children equally. I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved sons Joseph & David Executors to this my last will & testament revoking all others by me at any time made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day and year above written.
