I, Edward Hobbs Sr., of the county of Onslow and State of North Carolina, planter, being unwell of bodyly health, but in perfect sound mind and memory, thanks be given to God for the same, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, revoking all others if any should be found, in any wise whatever. First of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth from whence it came to be buried in a decent christian like manner, at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubting & (illegible) I shall receive the Glory on the right hand of the most pure and high God, again at the general resurrection, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has here pleased God to bless me with, I give and dispose of them in the following form and manner to wit. First, I give to my son Edw. Hobbs Jr., one bed and furniture and pine chest and one man to be sold on a six months credit and pounds arising from said sale to be equally divided between my three children namely, Mary Grant, Hester and Clarisa Ann (?) Hobbs and my pewter to be equally divided between my three daughters, Mary, Hester and Claris Ann. I give to my two daughters Hester Hobbs and Clarisa Ann Hobbs, the tract of land I now live on to be equally divided between them to their (illegible) proper use to them, their heirs and assigns forever. Further I give to my two daughters, Hester and Clarisa Ann Hobbs, one bed & furniture a piece. Lastly, I give all my unmentioned property to my daughter Mary Grant to her and heirs forever. I do revoke and disannul all wills and testaments. In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 29th day of July, 1829. Signed sealed and published and declared by the said Edwd. Hobbs as his last will and testament in the presence of us (illegible) in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names. (signed) Thomas Ennett, Sr. (signed) Benj. Williams State of North Carolina, Onslow County, Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, May term AD 1832. Then was the will of Edwd. Hobbs Sr., proved by the oath of Thomas Ennett Sr., who was a subscribing witness thereto and Thomas Ennett obtained letters of administration with the will amended to the said estate given a bond with David W. Sanders and James H. Mumford Security for the amt of two hundred dollars.
