I, John Lovet, of the county of Onslow & State of North Carolina, farmer, being very sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & memory. Thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will & testament, that is to say principally & first of all, I give & recommend my soul unto the hand of Almighty God that gave it & my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the final resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God & as touching(?) such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I give, divide & dispose of the same in the following manner & forever. First I give & bequeath unto my son Elijah Lovet nine pieces of gold already received & one hundred & ten dollars in silver already received, one negro man by the name Friday, 2 cows & calves, one yoke of oxen, 2 beds, one horse 2nd I give & bequeath unto my daughter Laindona (or Laindora ?) nine pieces of gold, one hundred & ten dollars of silver already received, 3 negroes by the name of Shack, Rachael, & Beak (?), two cows & calves & one sorrell mare, one riding chair, two beds, one yoke of steers. 3rd I give & bequeath unto my son Brice the lands & plantation whereon I now live containing 650 acres, one negro woman by the name of Marget & all her increase Jim, Jude, Kitty & her two children Patsy & Will & his increase Sutton, Cyrene, Mary & Vilet, one horse, two cows, 2 beds, 9 pieces of gold, one hundred & ten dollars silver already received & one yoke of steers. 4th I give & bequeath unto my son Dempsey 9 pieces of gold, one hundred & ten dollars silver already received, one piece of land lying in Jones County to be divided between him & David. Dempsey to have the west part, one negro girl by the name of Ester, two cows, one horse, 2 beds & yoke of steers. 5th I give & bequeath unto my son David 9 pieces of gold, one hundred & ten dollars silver already received. I give David the east part of my trent land in Jones County, four negroes by the name of Alec, Silvia, Ki??, & Rachel, one horse, two cows, 2 beds & one yoke of steers. Also I leave my Banks lands to be divided amongst my all my (sic) children. And I hereby make & ordain Daniel Ambrose & Hawkins Marshall Executors to this my last will & testament. Utterly disallow, revoke & disannul all & every other former statements, wills, legacies, bequests & Executors by me in (illegible) before named willed & bequeathed ratifying & confirming this & not other to be my last will & testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this the 17th day of October in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty eight. Then was this within will of John Lovett duly proved in open court by the oath of Daniel Farnell & the affirmation of John Eubanks two of the subscribing witnesses thereto & Hawkins Marshall one of the Executors therein named came into court & was qualified as Executor thereto agreeably to law.
