I, Thomas Melton of the county of Onslow and State of North Carolina, being in a low state of health but of a sound mind & understanding and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do this 10th day of March 1831, make and declare this my last will & testament . First, I most humbly recommend my soul to almighty God from whose bounteous hands I received the same in hope that in triumph the merits of Jesse Christ and his suffering the same will enjoy peace, happyness and bask in the glorious (illegible) to com. ITEM I give and bequeath to my nephew George W. Melton all my estate real & personal. I nominate, constitute and appoint William Montfort & Dexter Burns executors of this my last will & testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all other wills by me made and confirm this and only this to be and certain my last will and testament and request they will execute the same according to my true will and intent with all my just debts paid out of my estate. Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day and year herein mentioned. Signed sealed and delivered by the testator as for his last will and testament.
