I, Woodhouse Rhodes of the county of Onslow & State of North Carolina being in bad health but of sound mind & memory thanks be to almighty God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: First of all, I resign my soul to almighty God who gave it & my body to the earth from whence it came to be buried in a decent Christian like manner; And as for what worldly goods I am blessed with in this life, I dispose of as following to wit: ITEM It is my will that first of all that my just debts & funeral expenses be paid out of my estate. ITEM I give & bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Rhodes one negro woman by the name of Doris (?), one cow & calf, one sow & pigs, one bed & furniture ad chest, one table, one safe, all my wooden ware, all my crockery ware and pewter ware, six sitting chairs, pr of scales & weights, one large hogshead, (illegible) barrels, one meal (?) stand, two jugs, one large butter pot, two woolen wheels, one linnen wheel, one loom & (illegible) and all my pot ware to her & her heirs forever……….. ITEM I give unto my daughter Earlina Harget five shillings, she already having received her portion of my estate. ITEM I also give unto my daughter Mary T Humphrey five shillings, she also having received her portion of my estate. ITEM I give unto my son Asa Rhodes five shillings, he also having received his portion of my estate. ITEM I give Christopher and Henry Rhodes heirs of my son Lemuel Rhodes five shillings their father having recd his portion of my estate. ITEM I give unto my son Henry Rhodes my large bible and dictionary and one large silver spoon to him and his heirs forever. ITEM I give unto my son Durant H. Rhodes one large silver spoon, one pair small steelyards (?) and one large geography to him & his heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath unto the heirs of my daughter Narcissy H. Howard one negro girl Zilpha to be equally divided among them. ITEM I give unto my son Anthony Rhodes one pot rack to him & his heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath unto my son Edmund Rhodes one disk, one looking glass, one Buffet, one pair of andiron, one pair of large steelyards (?), one shot gun, one chisel & broad axe and one (illegible), three silver tea spoons to him & his heirs forever. ITEM I give & bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Rhodes one bed and furniture, two cows & calves, to her & her heirs forever. ITEM I appoint my son Durant H. Rhodes Executor to this my last will & testament: assigned sealed & delivers in presence of us on the 3rd day of May AD 1827….. John A.
