I, Nehemiah Taylor, of the county of Onslow & State of North Carolina being of sound & perfect mind & memory blessed be god for the same do this 21st day of January in the year of our lord 1829 make this my last will & testament as follows that is to say… 1st I recommend my soul in the hands of God who gave it. 2nd That all my just debts be justly paid & my funeral expenses paid out of my estate. 3rd I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Fanny Taylor (after my debts be paid) all of my estate during her natural life or widowhood. Then to be divided between my children as follows viz. Richard Taylor, Mary Taylor, Margaret Taylor, Nehemiah Taylor, & Elzey Taylor as follows. I give to my two sons Richard & Nehemiah the plantation where I now live to be equally divided between the two & if one should die without a lawful heir then to return to the other. Also, I give to my two daughters (Transcriber note: The reference to two daughters must be an error on the part of the clerk or whomever made entry into this will book. The will clearly identifies three daughters.) Mary, Margaret & Elzey my lands lying in the south west prong of New River to be equally divided between them & should one die without a lawful heir then to return to the others. & all the remainder of my property ten to be equally divided between them all as above mentioned & I hereby make & ordain my worthy wife Fanny Taylor & friend E. J. Hardison my Executors to this my last will & testament in witness whereof I the said Nehemiah Taylor have to this my last will & testament set my hand & seal the day & date above written, signed sealed & published & declared by the said Nehemiah Taylor the testator as his last will & testament in the presence of us who were present at the time of signing and sealing thereof. Witnesses E. J. Hardison Lemuel Hardison Elijah Hobbs (signed) Nehemiah Taylor State of North Carolina, Onslow County, Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, August term 1829. Then was the execution of the foregoing will of Nehemiah Taylor duly proved in open court by the oath of Lemuel Hardison, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto & Elzey J.
