In the name of God Amen. This day of January 1798, John Thompson being weak in body but of a good and perfect memory thanks be to God, calling to remembrance the mortality of the body, knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, so makes and distributes and ordains this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that first gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors, but at the general resurrection receive the same by the mighty power of God, and as touching (?) worldly estate, which it has blessed God to bless me with in this life. I give and dispose of the same in a manner and form as follows at my decease. ITEM I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Benneter (?) Waldron one bay mare and all the increase, two heifers and one bed and furniture, one can and bottles & one half dozen of plates, the property John Waldron has to him upon I lend it to him, I give and bequeath to my son in law ten shillings sterling. ITEM I give and bequeath to my son James Thompson one mare by the name of Pleasure (?), one bed and furniture, one plow and one ax and one half dozen of plates, and if he should die without a lawful heir the property shall turn back and be sold and divided. ITEM I give to my son James thirty pounds in Nuts (?). ITEM I give to my wife Sarah Thompson all the property I possess enduring her life or widowhood, and if she should marry, the property shall be sold and divided betwixt my children, which is Martha, Sarah, Lewis, Marian, Nathan, Daniel and the child she is now big with, and herself, and if she should continue a widow, if any of my children should marry, she shall give such property as she thinks out to them and if my wife continues a widow till she goes out of this world, she shall divide my property agreeable to her own will among my children. I apoint William Pollock my holy (wholly) and only executor and my wife Sarah Thompson. The within will of John Thompson was proved in open court by the name of Nathan Askew and William Pollick and Sarah Thompson, the Executors therein named qualified as such. Then was the foregoing last will and testament of John Thompson duly proved as a will devising real estate by the testimony of James Glenn, Frederick Askew and Mathew Sumner (?), agreeably to the acquisition of the act of (illegible) of 1784, Chapt. 225. Court of law of this county, that a paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John Thompson and dated January 1798 had been duly proven and found in (illegible) made up according to an act in such (illegible) made and provided to be the last will and testament of John Thompson and the said will with a certificate of probate therein, being initialed (?) by this court, the same is admitted by the court and ordain to be registered, it is further ordained that letters testamentary open to Sarah Sandlin, wife of Jesse Sandlin, who appears in court and qualifies as executrix aforesaid.
