First, I resign my soul to God who gave it and my body to be decently buried in a Christian like manner and as to what it hath been please God to bestow on me of this worlds wealth, I distribute in the following form & manner. First, I lend to my beloved wife Ellen, born of the body of Sarah Evens, wife of Samuel Evens, during her natural life the land and plantation whereon I now live, known by the name of the Bryant land and also one negro woman Kitty, one horse of her choice, one riding chear & gear, one cart, three cows & calves, three sows & pigs, two feather bed & furniture, two plows & gear, two hoes, two axes, one clock, one cupboard and its furniture, during her life. Then I give to my said wife Elende all my pottry of all kind, two of her choice pots, one oven, one pan, tea kettle & hand irons, five tongs & shovel, two smoothing irons, two wheels and all my cards, one loom & gear, two chests & cheas box, six chairs, two tables, two washing tubs, two pales, one (beult? way?) & cistern, one (shire?) morter coffee mill, one jar, one canoe & 2 nets, to her and her heirs forever. Then I give to my son John Dennis Aman, after the death of my said wife, the land and plantation that I loaned to my wife, to him and his heirs forever. Then I give to my son R. Thomas the following land beginning at a red oak at the river, thence a westerly course to a popular in the Hall line, then up said line to a sweet gum, then down my Bryant tract of land to the beginning, to him and his heirs forever, it being the upper part of the Hall land and should either of my said sons die before coming of age the other surviving to have his part of said land. Then I give to my son Jesse Aman, the following land, beginning at a red oak at the side of the river, then the various courses of the river to the mouth of the south west neck, then up the creek to the (lee?) line, then to popular in said line, thence an easterly course to the beginning, to him & his heirs forever, it being the lower part of the Hall land. Then I give to my daughter Mary Ennett one Negro boy Randol and also one Negro boy Peter to her and her heirs forever. Then I give to my three daughters, Ellen, Nancy & Mourning Aman the following Negroes, one negro man Ben and one boy named Sam, one girl name Sarah and one child Fanny to be equally divided between them and if either of them die under age, the surviving one or ones to have their share of said Negroes. Then I give to my daughter Rachel, wife of Aron F. Littleton, one dollar in (specia?) and no more, then I give to my five children Ellen, Nancy, John Dennis, R. Thomas & Mourning one feather bed and furniture, each of them & furniture then I leave one hundred dollars to educate my last five mentioned children. Then I give to my two grandchildren Robert & Elijah Aman one hundred dollars to be equally divided between them. Then the balance of my unencumbered property to be sold on a six months credit and all my debts that are due to me collected and all my just debts paid and all expences paid, I leave three hundred dollars to be given to my wife Ellen for her & family support and the balance to be equally divided among my five youngest children. Then all the balance of the property loaned to my wife with the exception of my land that was willed to John, I leave to be sold at my said wife's decease and the profits of said sale to be equally divided among my children as follows; Mary, Jesse, John D., Ellen, Nancy, R. Thomas & Mourning. Then I leave and ordain my wife Ellen Aman and Joseph Ennett Executors to this my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me made and publish this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this fifth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine and in presence of us Test: Jesse Aman Test: James R. Philips the subscribing witnesses hereto and ordered to be registered and filed as the last will and testament of Dennis Aman, deceased, and Joseph Ennett the executor therein named appeared in open court and was duly qualified as executor aforesaid when letters testamentary was granted him by order of said court.
