This 4th day of June AD 1839. I, Thomas Barrow, of Onslow County (NC.) being in a very low state of bodily health, but of sound mind and memory & knowing it is appointed for all men once to die & secondly, expecting to be again restored to a perfect state of health do make this my last will and testament in the following manner. That is to say, to my sister Polly (Eaperlon or Eaperton?), I give and bequeath the sum of five dollars in cash to her, heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath to the sons and daughters of my brother Benjamin Barrow, decd., born to him in lawful wedlock, that is to say Edward D. Barrow, George S. Barrow, Elizabeth Barrow (or Whidbee), Zachariah Barrow & Mary Jarman, the sum of five dollars to each of the aforesaid heirs of Benjamin Barrow, to them, their heirs & assigns forever. I give and bequeath to the daughter of my brother John Barrow, decd., (now Sarah Ann Francks), the sum of five dollars in cash to her, her heirs and assigns forever. And I also in addition to the bequests above mentioned, do give and bequeath to my beloved wife Deidama Barrow all the lands I own in Onslow County (or elsewhere), consisting of the following pieces or parcels of land (viz.). A tract of land I purchased of Buckner Barry lying on each side of Swansborough Road, joining the land of E. Francks & Robert White, containing by estimation sixty acres, be the same more or less. Also, I give and bequeath to my said wife another tract of land, it being all the rights of the diferent heirs of Benjamin Barrow, decd. (Except the wright of Mary Jarman) in & to the land of my father, Zachariah Barrow, decd., on the south side of Cohorn (Cowhorn?) run & east side of the north west of New River & in which last named piece of land the widow of my brother Benjamin Barrow has a life estate as her dower in said land & at her the said widow Nancy Ball's death, it is mine by purchase, all of which said last piece of land contains two hundred and fifty acres, by estimation be the same more or less, all of which lands, being all the land I own, I give to my beloved wife Deidama, to her, her heirs and assigns for ever. And I also give and bequeath to my said wife the following Negro slaves and their future increase, that is to say, Peter and Jack, men, March, a boy & Matilda, a woman & her female child Clay, which said negro man, boy, woman & female child I give to my wife aforesaid to her, her heirs and assigns for ever. And I also give and bequeath to my said wife all my horse beasts, my stock of cattle, 1 yoke of oxen & cart, all my plantation tools & farming utensils of every description and all my feather beds, bedsteads and furniture, all my household and kitchen furniture, all my geese togather with all the rest of my moveable or perishable property, not before mentioned in this my last will (with the exception of my silver watch), I give & bequeath to my beloved wife to her, her heirs and assigns for ever. And further, I give and bequeath to my friend Robert White my silver watch as a token of the long subsisting friendship between him and me to him, his heirs & assigns forever. And lastly, I appoint my friend Robert White the sole Executor to this my last will and testament, denying all and every other will or wills by me heretofore made & acknowledge this to be my only will & in witness whereof I, the said Thomas Barrow, do hereunto set my hand & seal & in presence of the following witnesses, the day & date first written.
