This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ==================================================================== RICHARD BASDEN WILL State of North Carolina County of Onslow Will Book 2 In the name of God, Amen, I, Richard Basden, of the County of Onslow and State of North Carolina, being sick and weak of body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, to the end that I may be better prepared to leave this world, when it shall please my God to call me hence, I do make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all former last wills and testaments by me heretofore made. And my will is first, that I give and devise to my beloved wife Rilly Basden for her portion or dower in my lands beginning at a corner to be yet marked out, where my son Jesse Basden's portion of my lands is to be set of to him, = thence up the swamp to the mouth of the Branch called little Mill branch, thence up the various courses of said branch to the woods, thence as the fence runs around to Jesse Basden's line (yet to be laid off) including the dwelling house & out buildings, with the privilige of getting fire wood and rail timber on any of my land. I also give my wife three beds, bedsteads and furniture, all my house & kitchen furniture and all my stocks of horses, hogs &C., - I also give and devise unto my wife all my corn, fodder, pease, bacon and pork, with the exception of a sufficient quantity of either or any as will be required to be sold by my executor hereinafter named, to pay off and discharge all my just debts. ITEM 2nd I give and divise unto my son Jesse Basden one tenth of my lands to begin on the swamp at William Basden's corner, thence up the swamp a number of poles sufficient to strike a straight line from said swamp parallell with William Basden's line to the back line where my lands joins James White's to contain one tenth of my lands. ITEM 3rd I give and devise unto the following named children their portion of my lands, to be equally and fairly divided between them as they arrive of age; Lot Williams, Henry Gray, James Daniel, Holland, Luiza and Nancy Basden, their tenth is to be laid off and set apart so as to fall on the dower of my wife or as near on the dower as possible, this division is to commence next to Jesse Basden's line and to be laid of in equal portions by parallell lines running from the swamp to the back line. ITEM 4th I give and devise to my daughter Selah Mashborn one tenth of my real estate to be laid off and set apart for her, beginning on the swamp at the corner where the six children's share ends, then parallell with their line to the back line. ITEM 5th I give and devise to Sally Jarman, my daughter, one tenth of my real estate beginning on the Swamp & running parallell with and side to Selah Mashborn's share of land, her tenth. ITEM 6th the dower set apart for my wife is to be goods and continue during her natural life then to go to the heirs whose share falls on said dower, she is to keep and remain into quiet possession of the dwelling house & her dower during her natural life. ITEM 7th the entire lands hereby conveyed to my children is conveyed to them, their heirs and assigns to their own proper use and behoof in fee simple forever. ITEM 8th I give and devise to my son Jesse Basden one bed & furniture. ITEM 9th I also give and devise to my wife all my farming implements tools &C. I do nominate and appoint my son Jesse Basden to be the sole executor of this my last will and testament.
