This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ==================================================================== LEWIS CANADY WILL State of North Carolina County of Onslow Will Book 2 State of North Carolina} Onslow County} I, Lewis Canady, being some what infirm in body but in sound sense & mind & memory, calling to mind the mortality of my life, a body & knowing that it is appointed unto all men to die, I make & ordain this my last will & testament. First, I give & recommend my soul to God who gave it & my body tot he earth from whence it came to be buried in a Christian manner at the termination of my life. As touching my worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, I dispose of it in the following manner, to wit: First, I lone to my beloved wife Elizabeth Canady that part of my plantation lying to the north west of a crop fence, with a ditch along running to fence, with all the improvements thereunto, belonging together with my dwelling house & field around about it and all the improvements thereon with all the plantation tools and farming utensils during her natural live or widowhood. Also, I lone to my beloved wife Elizabeth Canady her choice of my working horses, also fore cows & caves, also two hed of beef cattle & two sows and pigs & my hogs enough to fatten for her years meat & as much of my crop as is sufficient for her years provision; also four uses & lambs & my stock of bees together with my household & kitchen furniture. I now make a division line through my plantation between my sons and daughters, beginning at the mouth of a branch that makes down between my new ground & little island fields, thence running north twelve east to a little meadow, near my old coopers shop; then with a line of marked trees to the old pattent line, I give unto my sons Jesse Hill Canady & Uriah Bigs Goodman Green Canady all my lands ly8ing to the north west side sed line & if either of them dies without issue, the survivor is to inherit the whole. And I give to my five daughters the balance of my land lying to the East of the aforementioned line & to my daughter Hop's children, on e hundred dollars to be left in the hands of my executors to be given to or bestowed on them as they think & the balance of my unmentioned property to be sold at my (vandue?) and after defraying my funeral expences and just debts, the balance to be divided equally amongst all y surviving children. Moreover, I leave to my two youngest daughters to each of them a cow & calf, a feather bed & furniture a piece & to my grandson Lewis, one cow & calf also. I leave my sons Jesse H. Canady & Uriah (Bliss?) Canady my executors, this March the 13 day 1844. Then was the foregoing paper writing offered for probate as the last will and testament of Lewis Canady, decd., and admitted as such on the oaths of John Wilkings and Aaron David, esq., the subscribing witnesses thereto and Jesse H. Canady, one of the Executors therein named, appeared in open court and was duly qualified according to law.
