I, Jeptha Cary, of Onslow County & State of North Carolina, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say first), I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Cary all of my estate both personal and real during her natural life or widowhood. If my wife should marry, I will that the whole of my estate shall be taken out of her possession and converted to the use and benefit of my son and daughter, viz., Vasta & Zadoc. All of my land and one bed & furniture to my son Zadoc and the balance and residue of my estate to my daughter Vasta. So long as my wife remains a widow, she is to have just possession of my estate as I have before mentioned, to her use and benefit unless my son Zadoc should arrive at the age of 21 years before the death or marriage of his mother and should want, I wish him to have half my lands layed off to him exclusive to the buildings which I wish his mother to have possession of as I have before mentioned, I wish that my beloved wife Elizabeth shall have the guardianship of my son and daughter that I have before mentioned and after the death or marriage of my wife, I wish my executor to divide my property as I have before mentioned between my son and daughter which I give and bequeath to them, their heirs and assigns forever. I do by these presents constitute and appoint John Cary sole executor to this my last will and testament and hereby revoking all former wills by me made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this May the 17th day in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five.
