This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ==================================================================== ALEXANDER HENDESON WILL State of North Carolina County of Onslow Will Book 2 In the name of God, Amen; I, Alexander Henderson, being somewhat unwell, but of sound disposing mind & memory, and calling to mind the certainty of death hath thought proper to publish this, my last will & testament, in the following form (viz.). First of all, I recommend my soul to the God of heaven who gave it, my body to its mother dust to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner. Next, I wish all my just debts to be paid out of my estate. I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth during her widowhood a negro woman Rachel & her child Phillis, one other child of hers named Handy, one other child of hers named Harriet, one Negro fellow Frank, two feather beds & furniture, one horse called (Brocket?), ten barrels of corn, two plows & gear and one cow & calf. I give to my son Thomas one Negro woman Polly, one Negro boy Isaac, one Negro girl Leah which Negroes he has now in his possessions. I give unto my son Lewis one Negro woman (Biner?) & her child Eliza, one Negro girl Caroline & one Negro boy by the name of Edmund. I give unto my son Lawrence Negro woman Ann Jane & her child Martha, one Negro boy Arnold & boys Henry & Amos. I also give my son Lawrence negro girl Mary in case they should be property sufficient to pay my just debts that is not herein disposed of; but should these not be a sufficiency of property, I leave her to be sold and in case should be any remaining balance of her value after paying my debts, I leave that balance to my son Lawrence. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Cox one hundred acres of land, ajoining the lands of Buckner House & to be to laid off as to include the buildings where Richard Gregor now lives; I also give her ten dollars to be paid out of my estate. I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth one third part of my plantation, her third part to include the buildings, with the priviledge of feeding hogs upon my out lands, getting rail timber & fire wood. This loan during her natural life and in consideration of the property herein loaned to my beloved wife, it is my request that the raise my son Lawrence (illegible) from charge, the remainder of my lands I wish to be equally divided between my three sons Thomas, Lewis and Lawrence. It is further my will that y executor which I shall hereafter appoint, sell at a credit of six months all property of my estate not herein disposed of apply the proceeds to the payment of my debts and should there be a remainder, I leave it to be equally divided amongst my three sons Thomas, Lewis & Lawrence. It is further my will that in case my wife should marry, that all the property loaned her during widowhood be equally divided amongst my three sons Thomas, Lewis and Lawrence & should she remain single untill death, then it is my desire that all the property loaned her both during her widowhood & lifetime be equally divided amongst my three sons. Lastly, I constitute and appoint my son Lewis Henderson my only & sole executor to this my last will & testament, thereby revoking all other and former wills by me made in testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal on 11th of February AD, 1839.
