I, Elizabeth Holt of Onslow County & State of No. Carolina, being at this time weak in body but of perfect sound mind & disposing memory, bless be God for the same, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner & form following, (viz.). First of all, I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it me & my body to the earth from whence it was taken, to be decently buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors herein after named. And as touching such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give & bequeath in manner following. ITEM I give & bequest unto my sister Margaret Foy one bed & furniture to her, her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 2nd I give & bequeath unto Niece Ann Jones one bed & furniture to her, her heirs & assigns forever. ITEM 3rd I give & bequeath unto my niece Betsy Ann Hill one Negro girl named Dinah to her, her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 4th I give and bequeath unto Martha Jarman one bed, bedstead & furniture to her, her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM 5th I lend unto my grand daughter Elizabeth Holt, during her natural life, all my lands & plantation whereon I now live with all my Negroes (except girl Dinah above bequeath to Betsy Ann Hill & woman Nan to be disposed of hereafter) and increase. My said grand daughter Elizabeth Holt at the time of her death shall have children & grand children, the above lent property to be equally divided among them, but should my said grand daughter E. Holt have no children as above named at her death, then the property loned to her to descend to all my sisters children to be equally divided among them, share & share alike. ITEM 6th my will is that all the residue of my estate, real & personal, not above disposed of to be sold at six months credit & after discharging all my just debts & funeral expences, the residue I give & bequeath unto my grand daughter Elizabeth Holt to her, her heirs & assigns forever. Lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my trusty friends James R. Bryan and Hardy Bryan Executors to this my last will & testament, revoking all former will by me made, acknowledging this to be my only last will whereunto I set my hand & affix my seal this 4th day of October AD 1819. Sanders and Daniel Ambrose, who having been duly sworn proved the death of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing and that the signatures of H. Bryan, Jas. R. Bryan were in their proper hand writing respectively, whereupon it is considered by the said court that the foregoing paper writing is the last will and testament of Elizabeth Holt and that the same be admitted to probate as such and that the same be filed and recorded.
