I, James King Senr., of the state and county aforesaid, being of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be God, do this 22nd day of October 1836, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following. ITEM I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Molsey King and five children namely, Belinda, Marenda, Ava, John and Jesse, all my beds and furniture to be equally divided amongst them each receiving an equal part thereof. ITEM I will and bequeath to my daughter Belinda King a negro girl named Anna, to have in possession during life, thence to descend to the lawful begotten heirs of her body and if none, to return to the surviving brothers and sisters of her Mother's offspring, namely Marenda King, John B. King, Ava King and Jesse King and their lawful begotten heirs forever. ITEM I will and bequeath to my daughter Marenda King a negro girl by name of Kate, to have in possession during life, thence to the lawful begotten heirs of her body and if none, to return to the surviving brothers and sisters, namely Belinda King, John B. King, Ava King and Jesse King and their lawful heirs. ITEM I will and bequeath to my daughter Ava a negro girl named Rosanna, to have in possession during life, thence to the lawful begotten heirs of her body and if none, to return to the surviving brothers and sisters, namely Belinda King, Marenda King, John B. King and Jesse King and their lawful begotten heirs forever. ITEM I will and bequeath to my two sons John B. King and Jesse W. King, 230 acres of 130 laying on the North side of Hanes Creek formerly known the Jonathan Jones place 100 acres laying on the Baregrass on the East side thereof beginning at a cypress each to receive an equal share thereof, to have in possession during life, thence to their lawful begotten heirs of their bodies and if either should died without such lawful heir or heirs, it should return to the surviving brother and if both should die without lawful begotten heirs, it should return to the surviving sisters, namely Belinda King, Marenda King, Ava King and their lawful begotten heirs forever, and also I will and bequeath to my two sons, John B. and Jesse W., a negro fellow named Sanders to have in possession during life and thence to the lawful begotten heirs if any and if none, to return to the surviving daughters, namely Belinda King, Meranda King and Ava King and to thereir lawful begotten heirs forever and also I will and bequeath to my two sons, aforesaid John B. and Jesse W., after the death of my beloved wife, a negro woman name Tenor and her increase if any from the present date to be divided at my son Jesse W. ariving to twenty one years of age, between them equally to have in possession during life and thence to the lawful begotten heir or heirs of their two diferent bodies if any and if none to return to the aforesaid sisters namely, Belinda, Marenda and Ava and their heirs forever. ITEM I will and bequeath that my beloved wife Molsey King shall have in possession my negro man Dick and two negro woman Rhoda and Tenor, during her life and their increase and thence to return to my aforesaid sons, namely John B. and Jesse W. and their lawful heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Craft one dollar to her and to her heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Sylvester one dollar to her and her heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Petteway one dollar to her and her heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my son Jacob R. King one dollar to him and his heirs forever. ITEM I give and bequeath to my grandson Jacob Shepard to him & his heirs forever. (NOTE: I can only guess that the original transcribing clerk of court unintentionally omitted the specific bequest to grandson Jacob Shepard.) ITEM It is my will and desire that all my property not hereuntofore mentioned should be sold and after paying my just debts and funeral expences, the balance to equally divided between my wife and five children, each receiving an equal share. Lastly, I make and ordain my worthy son Jacob R. King and in case of failure, Thomas Mashburn executor of this my last will and testament in testimony hereunto I have set my hand and seal this day and date first above written signed & sealed.
