This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ==================================================================== ELZA LANDEN WILL State of North Carolina County of Onslow Will Book 2 State of North Carolina} Onslow County} In the name of God, Amen, I, Elzy Landing (Landen) of the state and county aforesaid, being of sound mind & memory and knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, hath thought proper to make this my last will and testament, revoking all other wills by me made and devise this my last will as follows, viz. 1st I will my sole in the hands of its creater to be delt with as his tender mercy shall direct. 2nd My body a decent burial after all my just debts is paid. ITEM I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife one bed and furniture, one big chist, one chist of drawes & side bord, my mair Brancy and cart to her and her heirs forever. ITEM give to my son Henry my young horse Sealam for his faithful performance to me and his mother. ITEM I give to my three daughters, namely Sarian Landing, Henrity and Mary Lizer my three beds and firniture at the will of my wife Sybbrina, as she shall see proper to give them up. ITEM give my beloved wife Sybbrina five cows and calves and one stear, the pick of my stocks during the natural life also all my land and the provision on hand as it shall be at my death, during her natural life, also the rent of my boxes and them that may be cut hereafter as she may think proper, also all my stocks of hogs that may be on hand at my death during her natural life. ITEM I also leave to my wife Sybbrina all my plantation tools that she may see proper to keep. ITEM all my property not herein named after my said wife takes what she may think necessary for her keeping up the farm and other implements about the house for her use, the remainder to be sold, all my just debts paid, the balance if any equally divided amongst my children. ITEM after my said wife Sybbrina's death, all that shall be then left & the beds given to my three daughters to be valued, the parishable property to be sold at six months credit, the land at twelve months credit, the value of the bed to be counted in and all to be equally divided amongst my children, namely Thomas, William, Henry, Benjamin, Jackson, Sarian, Henrita and Mary Lizer Landen. I also leave my wife Sybbrina and my friend Joshua Foy Executors to this my last will and testament, in witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of January 1849. Sanders and Owen Jarrott, the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and filed as such last will and testament and Sabrina Landen the executrix therein named appeared in open court and was duly qualified as such and letters testamentary was ordered to give to her.
