First, I give to my beloved wife Didama Matticks all the lands lying in Onslow County that I obtained by intermarriage with her, also all the Negroes that I obtained by an intermarriage with her by known by the following names: Peter, Jack, March, Matilda, & Clary. Also, I give to her of my own family Negro boy Mills and Negro girl by the name of Annis, to her & her heirs forever. I also give to my beloved wife Didama four feather beds and furniture, her choice; also my travelling trunk and two more trunks her choice; also, one beaureau and two tables her choice; also what parts of the kitchen furniture she may want; also, two heads of horses, her choice; also one jig, her choice; also, four cows and calves, her choice; one yoke of oxen, her choice; also, I give to her for her years support seventy five barrels of corn and thirty five hundred pounds of pork, fifty pounds of coffee, and one hundred pounds of sugar, one barrel of molasses and two barrels of flour, twenty five pounds of butter and eight bushels salt & six stacks of blade fodder. I also give to her the sum of fourteen hundred dollars to be paid to her out of the sales of my perishable property, if there is a sufficiency after paying my just debts. And if there is not a sufficiency, she must wait for the money to be raised by the hire of my Negroes. Secondly, I give to nephew Francis A. Matticks, son of Micajah F. Matticks, one Negro boy by the name of Alec. I give to nephew Joseph T. Matticks, son of John Matticks, one Negro boy by the name of Oliver. After my estate is settled fully, the residue of my estate, both real and personal (except negro woman Milly Ambrose, Margaret & her increase), I give to Micajah F. Matticks, Allen B. Matticks, William Matticks, and John Matticks children, each brothers children who may be living at the time of distribution after my estate is settled. In case that Lewis O. Henderson and wife Hannah Eldy does not ever bring any suit against my estate or interrupt any way, then I lend unto the said Hannah Eldy Henderson my negro woman Milly Ambrose and my negro woman Margaret and increase during her natural life and then I give them to the heirs of her body. And lastly, I nominate and appoint my friends Daniel Ambrose and my friend Bazel M. Barry and my brother Allen B. Matticks my Executors. Witness my hand and seal this 15 day of Nov. 1842.
