I, James Mashborne, being very sick & weak in body but of sound mind and memory, calling to mind that it is appointed once for all men to die, I therefore make and ordain this my last will and testament, in the following manner, that is to say. First, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sena Mashborne (my beloved wife), my Negro man Abner, Sary and Silvy, and Elbert and Jobe and Louisa and (York?), one bay mare and side saddle and nine head of cattle, one sow and five pigs and one white year sow and five (goates?), and one red chest, one table, one low bedstead and cord, and (spted or afted?) mat, 2 wheels, one of woolen and linen wheel and 2 plows and gear and (clires?) iron and (swing or sewing?) tree, 1 Dutch oven and pair of pot hooks, one bred trey and sifter and six spoons, 12 plates, one dish and 2 bowls, six knives and forks, one clock, one pitcher, six chairs, one (inch?) auger and one hand saw, one iron square, 2 cages, 2 coffee pots and one iron pot trammel, one candlestick and (moles or moldes?), one sugar box, one (tin?) bason and 2 planers, one for plane and smouth? plane, 2 chisels, one wide and narrow one, one hackel, ten old barrels, one pair sheares and all the land where L. M. Williams lives by deed from Benjamin White to wife Lena and all the (oliane as it is moushed?) to my wife Sena (now and forever?). I lend to my wife her lifetime, one bed and bedstead and cord and furniture, then to Rily Ann. I also lend to my wife one loom an (shicds?) and temple loom to be to Rily Ann, one pot and pot hooks, it to be Rily Ann, one skillet, one pine chest her lifetime, then to Rily Ann, one horse cart and gear and at her death, the cart and chest to be sold at her death, one crop cut, saw and big Bible to Howel Mashburn, the (Mask?) to James and the shot gun to Jarman Mashburn. I give to my wife Sena Mashburne 2 poles and one washer tub, one churn, one half bushel to be to Rily Ann, one die to be to my wife, one bed and sted and cord to Sucky, one bed to Anna and twelve head of geese to my wife and at her death to Riley Ann, one garment chest and all that is in it, one little chest to Rily Ann and I leave all of my corn and fodder as it now stand to my wife Sena and potatoes to her all as they stand and all of my unwilled property to be sold as the (lanu? an such?) and to pay all of my just debts and after they are paid, then the balance to be divided among my boys and the chest and cart to be sold after my wife's death, it to be given to Jarman Mashborne. And I give 2 (kilens?) to my wife Sena. I also give to my wife Sena all of the turpentine that the boy Abner will make this year and one bolster to Sucky and one to Anna. I hereby make and ordain my friend L. M. Williams Executor to my last will and testament in witness whereas I the said James Mashburn hereto set my hand and seal this to be my last will and testament, here set my hand and seal this the 12 of September 1840.
