ITEM I give unto my wife Lucretia Porter one negro man by the name of Orrange and one negro woman by the name of Cherry to have the use of them during her natural life or widowhood. ITEM after the death of my wife Lucretia Porter, the Negroes I left for her use during her natural life, my will and desire is for them to be eaqually divided among my lawful heirs. ITEM I give unto my son Elisha Porter, Jr., all of the money and notes that I may have at the time of my death, after the payment of my lawful debts. ITEM I give unto my son Elisha Porter, Jr., all of my household furniture. ITEM I do nominate and appoint my son Elisha Porter, Jr., to be the sole executrix of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and seal and publish and decree this to be my last will and testament this 15th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six. Joseph Congleton Samuel Jarvis State of North Carolina} Onslow County} Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions June Term 1857 The paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Elisha Porter, decd., was exhibited for probate in open court by Elisha Porter, Jr., the executor therein named and the due execution thereof by the said Elisha Porter, Sr., proven by the oath and examination of Joseph Congleton and Samuel Jarvis, the subscribing witnesses thereto. It is therefore considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Elisha Porter, Sr., and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed and thereupon the said Elisha Porter, Jr., executor as aforesaid duly qualified as such by taking the oath required by law.
