Sanders of Onslow County being of sound mind and memory do make and establish this my last will and testament, on this the 22nd day of January, one thousand eight hundred & forty six. First, it is my will & desire that my body should be decently intered in the burial ground of Gen. Edward Ward, decd., by the side of my wife and the expences arising shall be paid first. Second, it is my desire that all my just debts be paid from the property I leave to be sold and notes I leave and if not sufficient, the balance from the hire of my boy Charles. Third, I loan unto my beloved daughter Betsey Ann Spearman a feather bed & furniture, what crockery & pot ware I may have; also, my bay mare Caroline & increase if any, during her life and then to go to her children. Fourth, I loan unto my beloved daughter Fanny Henderson a feather bed now at her house, during her life and then to her children, and I give her twenty five dollars. Fifth, I leave my boy Charles to be hired out for the term of five years and the proceeds after my debts are paid to be applied to the support and education of my son David L. Sanders and the children of Betsey A. Spearman. Sixth, I give & bequeath unto my son David L. Sanders fifty dollars to be paid him by my son William S. Sanders for the horse I sold him. Seventh, I give and bequeath unto my beloved sons William S. Sanders and David L. Sanders my boy Charles after the term of five years, to be equally divided between them and if my son David should die before he comes to age, William is to have the negro by paying over twenty five dollars to each of his sisters for the benefit of their children. Eight, I leave my rowing canoe, two ceins (seines?), and chest of tools to be sold Ninth, I do hereby constitute and appoint my worthy friend Edward W. Johnston State of North Carolina} Onslow County} Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, February Term 1846. Then was this paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of David L. Sanders was duly proved in open court by James S. Wren and Andrew J. Johnston, the subscribing witnesses. It is ordered & adjudged by the court that this paper writing is the last will and testament of David S. Sanders, decd., and that the same be filed & recorded as such Edward W.
