Sanders of the County of Onslow and State of North Carolina, being weak in boy but of sound and disposing mind and memory, calling to mind the uncertainty of life, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. ITEM the first, I wish my Negro slaves valued by three disinterested men, to be chosen by my executor. When so valued, my beloved wife Alice Ann to select from them, such or so many in quantity her choice, as will make an amount equal to one third of the valuation of the whole number, such slaves to be and inure to her and her heirs absolutely. I also give to her twenty five barrels of corn, five hundred pounds of pork, one beef, and fifty dollars to purchase necessaries for her use. Also two beds & furniture, also the buggy & harness and her choice of my horses. ITEM the second, I wish all my lands sold on such credit (with interest from date) as my executor shall deem proper and I also wish my stock of every description, farming utensils, furniture, crop and all my perishable goods of all kinds, with what debts are owing me from the proceeds of said sales. I desire my debts paid and what balance may be remaining in the hands of my executors. I wish one third to be given to my wife Absolutely, the other two thirds, with the Negroes not given to my wife Alice Ann, I give and bequeath to my daughter Louisa May and the child or children that my wife in now pregnant with. ITEM third, should either my daughter Louisa May or the child or children that my wife is now pregnant with die before they marry or arrive at the age of maturity, then and in that event, I give the whole of the property bequeath to them, jointly to be and inure to the survivor absolutely. ITEM fourth, I appoint my brother David W. Sanders my executor, to this my will, but in case he should die before my estate is fully settled, then I appoint my brother John A. Sanders my executor to this will, revoking all other wills by me made and satisfying and confirming this only. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of September AD 1854. (signed) Edward W. Ward State of North Carolina} Onslow County} Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions December Term 1854 The foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will & testament of Edward W. Sanders, deceased, is exhibited in open court for probate by David W. Sanders the executor therein named, and the due execution thereof by the said Edward W. Sanders is proved by the oath of David G. W. Ward, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto. It is therefore considered by the court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testament of the said Edward W. Sanders, decd., and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed and thereupon the said David W.
