This being the 28 day of December 1841, Onslow County. I, William Thompson, being in bad health and knowing that I have to die, I do make and ordain this my last will & testament. First, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife my land that I bought of from Jesse King. I also her my Negro girl Rily and her child named Kitty. I also give to wife two beds and furniture and I give to her the pick of my horses. I also give her three cows and calves and three sows and pigs and all my earthen ware belonging to my bowfat (buffet?). I also lend her my man Isaac during her lifetime and then go to my son William. I also give to my wife one pot, one skillet, one frying pan, one spider, one Dutch oven and one years provisions; one plow and gear. I also lend her my negro (Vies?) her life time and to my son William. ITEM I give to my daughter Ann Everitt a negro girl named Patty and her child named Tom, the negroes that I lent my daughter in my lifetime. ITEM I give to my son William my negro girl Mary and Jesse and Lizy and Hanner and the residue of my property be sold and my just debts to be paid out of it and the balance left to be divided between my lawful heirs. State of North Carolina} Onslow County} Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, May Term AD 1844. John A. Averitt, Miles Speight, Joshua Foy and Gardner Shepard, being duly sworn deposed that they were each well acquainted with the hand writing of William Thompson, decd., and that they verily believe that the paper writing on the opposite page of this sheet and every part thereof was in the proper hand writing of the said William deceased and Joshua Foy aforesaid further deposed that the said paper writing was found after the death of the said William (found in his presence) in a trunk among the valuable papers of the said William.
