Barrow, Sr., of the State of North Carolina and of Onslow County, being very sick and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God therefore; calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will & testament, that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that first gave it to me and my body I do recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discreation of my executor hereinafter mentioned. Nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and devise of & dispose of in the following manner, (VIZ); ITEM I have already given to my daughter Sarah Olliver & my son Zachariah Barrow & son Abraham Barrow in time of life the greatest part of my worldly goods & chattels, consisting of land, Negroes & household furniture, too tedious to mention, I do also give unto the three before mentioned children one shilling to each of them & their heirs forever. ITEM: I lend to my beloved wife Sarah such part of the land and plantation and buildings where I now live as the land of our land prescribed for her. I also give & bequeath to her all money or moneys or property, real or personal, that shall or may come to her by being an heir to her father. ITEM: It is my desire should my executor hereinafter mentioned think it best that all my lands should be sold that lays on baregrass percosan and on the Chinepine Percosan and on both sides of Ashes Road, excepting one hundred acres of piney land adjoining the clame, being part of another survey, three hundred acres to be left for the use of my family. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son John Barrow the land & plantation whereon I now live that is to say all on the east side of a branch called Roaches Branch, also fifty acres joining Woodhouse Rhoads; Thos. Avery & Wm. Pollock's lands on or near the main road; also, one shotgun & one sorrel mare by the name of Fannie to him and his lawful heirs forever; also, lands I have not mentioned to be for the use of my family lying on Button Branch & joining Roach Branch. ITEM: It is my desire that my black horse, my sorrel horse and my colt should be sold and the money arising thereby, also the money arising by the land I have left to be sold & the money due from John, should go to pay my just debts and after paying the same, should any remain to be equally divided amongst my young children, my wife reckoned as one of the number. ITEM: I leave my Negro wench Sue now in the possession of Nathan Ashey to be left for the use of my family & her increase hereafter arising. ITEM; I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth one Negro girl Nesse, the child of Sue now with her mother at Ashey's, to her & heirs forever. ITEM: It is my desire that when my children comes of age or marrys, each one so applying, may draw their equal part of everything here left for the use of the family & also of everything not herein mentioned and lastly, I appoint and constitute my true & trusty friends McGains Rowe and Joseph Hadnot my whole & sole executors to this my last will & testament as witness my hand & seal this the 5th day of July Anno Domino One Thousand Seven Hundred Ninety nine; Signed, Sealed, Published and Delivered & pronounced by the Abraham Barrow (Sr.) as his last will and testament.
