I, Cordil Basden, of the County of Onslow and State of North Carolina, and being in good health and sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be God for it therefore, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as following; that is to say: Principally and first of all, I recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God who give it, hoping through the mercy of Jesus Christ to have free and full pardon of all my sins and so inherit eternal life and my body commit to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial according to the discretion of my executors hereafter named, do omit nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall review the same again by the mighty power of God and for what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the same in manner and form followeth: First, I will and ordain that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid and satisfied. Item: I give unto my two sons Richard Basden a& John Basden all my lands to be equally divided between the two sons and all the plantation tools, one bed and furniture, to each son and also I give one Negro man named Prince to the sons and raise and support the said children. Item: I give unto my daughter Nancy Basden one Negro boy named Artor, to my daughter Nancy Basden and her heirs for ever and also I give to my daughter Elizabeth Basden one Negro girl named Beak and her increases to be equally divided between the four children when the youngest son becomes of age; also one bed and furniture to each daughter and to their heirs forever. Item: I give unto Sarah Harris one bed and furniture. My stocks of all kinds is to be equally divided between my four children when John Basden becomes twenty-one years of age. I do hereby nominate and appoint my loving brother Jesse Basden and Lewis Jones to be my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament. I do hereby declare and pronounce this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20th of December 1800.
