This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, Thomas Dudley, of Onslow County, Planter, being in low state of health but of perfect mind and memory, and calling to recollection the uncertainty of life, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in form and manner following (viz.): After my death, it is my will and desire that my body be decently interred in the family burying ground by my executors. And that all my real estate be sold on a credit of six and twelve months and the perishable part on a credit of six months there from after paying all my just debts, to be put out at interest which shall be subject to an equal division among my four children, (to wit) Eley, Thomas, Eliza and Chrissy Dudley, share and share alike, whenever they shall arrive at the age of twenty years or shall marry. But should it so happen that either of them should die before arriving at that age or marrying, then the property to be equally divided between the survivors. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Cassey Cowell seventy-one acres of land on Whittock River, be the same more or less, it being a tract of land formerly owned by Ezekiel Hunter, one feather bed and furniture, one round mahogany tea table, one Negro girl named Charlotte, all of which she has now in her possession, also one more feather bed and furniture which is a present in my house, to her heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Eley Dudley one feather bed and furniture, one looking glass and one chest, which was her mother's to her and her heirs and assigns forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Dudley one feather bed and furniture and one chest to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Eliza Dudley one feather bed and furniture, one looking glass, and one trunk to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Chrissey Dudley, one feather bed and furniture, one looking glass and one trunk to her and her heirs forever. And furthermore, it is my will and desire that my two daughters Eliza and Chrissey should receive education at the discretion of my executors. Let it also be remembered that my table linen and such part of my table and furniture as my four children may want (viz) Elcy, Thomas, Eliza and Chrissey, be put at a fair valuation and charge to their separate accounts. Hereby nominating and appointing John. H. Hill, Charles Carroll and my son Thomas Dudley (when he shall arrive at the age of twenty) executors to this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others as witness my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and eleven. The within will of Thomas Dudley was proved in open court by John Wilson, a subscribing witness, and John H.
