I hope someone out there can confirm the surname.) September 7th, 1800 I, John Gipson, of Onslow County, being in sound memory but weak of body and calling to mind the uncertainty of this world and am willing to settle my affairs before I go hence and shall no more return and first of all, I give my soul to God who gave it in certain and sure resurrection at the last day and my body to be entered (interred?) at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned, and as to my estate that God hath pleased to bestow upon me, I give and bequeath as follows. And first of all, my will is that all of my just debts and funeral charges be paid and discharged. I lend all of my estate to my dear and beloved wife Magdolen Gipson, her natural life or widowhood, for use of schooling and raising the children at the discretion of my executors and if married, then I desire that my executors should sell the children's part and to be equally divided between my three children, John Gipson & Thomas Gipson & Henry Gipson, to them, their heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath to my son John Gipson my new pattend land lying on the west side of Whitehurst's Creek. Item: I lend my plantation to my beloved wife, which contains one hundred acres of land during her life and after her death, I give and bequeath the said land to my loving son Henry Gipson. Item: I give & bequeath to my son Thomas Gipson one hundred acres of land lying on Whitehurst's Creek pattened by Judithen Gipson to him and his heirs forever. And lastly I appoint William Gipson and Enoch Thompson to be my whole and whole executors to this my last will and testament. John (his mark) Gipson Senior (seal) Nelson Whitehurst Richard Whitehurst Sanders Fryer Onslow County: In court April term 1802, the within will of John Gipson was proved in open court by the oath of Sanders Fryer & William Gipson, one of the executors, qualified thereto.
