This file was contributed for use in the North Carolina USGenWeb Archives by: Beverly Cole ============================================================================ Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I, John Hewit Junior of the State of North Carolina and County of Onslow, Planter, being very sick and weak, but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my sol into the hands of almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose of the same in following manner and form: ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Dempsey Weeks Huit (Hewitt) one hundred and thirty acres of land where I now live, also two Negroes by the name Edmond and Annica, also one Negro woman by the name of Esther, to him and heirs forever. ITEM: I also give and bequeath to my son Dempsey Weeks Huit my black mare, all my cattle and hogs, all my stocks of bees, three beds & furniture, together with my household furniture of every kind, to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: It is my will and desire that my land on White Oak River in Jones County containing one hundred and fifty acres, being now under lease to my son Rigden Huit by assumint for the term of nineteen years from the date hereof at the price of twelve barrels of corn per year and that corn be paid yearly to my wife Nancy Huit for her support and support my son Dempsey Weeks Huit. ITEM: It is my will and desire that the land before mentioned at expiration of the nineteen years be equally divided between my grandson William Hewitt and grandson John Huit, son of Rigden Huit and in case either of them should die before they come to the age of twenty one years, that my son Dempsey Weeks Huit should have that part of said land which would have belonged to the deceased. ITEM: It is my will and desire in case my son Dempsey Weeks Huit should die before he comes to the age of twenty years, it is my will that my grandson William Huit should have all that part of my property before given to my son Dempsey Weeks Huit or that may hereafter be given, that my grandson William Huit should have it at the time when my son Dempsey W. Huit should have come to the age of twenty years as will be lent to my wife Nancy Huit until that time. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Nancy Huit one Negro woman named Beckey to her and her heirs forever. I also lend unto my wife Nancy Huit the use of all that property, both real and personal, which I have given to my son Dempsey W. Huit for the support of my wife and my son Dempsey until my son Dempsey should arrive to the age of twenty-one years. ITEM: It is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid out of such monies, notes and accounts which I shall leave and that the remainder be applied to the use of schooling my son Dempsey and it is my express desire that my son Dempsey W. Huit should be bound at the age of sixteen years to some mechanical trade at the discretion of my executors and I also give and bequeath to my son Dempsey Huit all the remaining part of my property, if any, except my smooth bored gun, I give and bequeath to my son Rigden Huit. ITEM: It is my will that my daughter Ellener Huit be paid five shillings by my executors out of the profits of my estate. I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend John Ferrand & my son Dempsey W. Huit at the age of twenty one years, executors of this my last will and testament, declaring all others to be null and void and this to be my last will. In witness whereof, I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal this 19th day of January in the year of our Lord 1809.
